The Angkor Wat or Angkor temple

Many people don’t know much about this temple but it’s really impressive once you read something about it, like me that during my investigation on what finalist to choose for my RSTT I read about the Angkor Wat and I realized the greatness of this human patrimony. A lot of the investigations that are made about this empire cataloged it as the first preindustrial city of the word with almost 1 million people.

This temple was settled on the region of Cambodia. It was constructed during the Khmer empire for the king Suryavarman on the 12 century A. D. The entire city was declared world heritage site for the UNESCO and it is the world largest single religious monument. Visitors came from all around the world to look at this impressive monument.

This is the first temple that has changed its religion in time, first it was Hindu, and then it turned to be a Buddhist temple. This temple is so important for the Cambodians that the silhouette of this monument appears on their flag.

This temple represents the Khmer architecture, it has three rectangular galleries and in the center a quincunx of towers. This temple is admired for the harmony, the greatness of their architecture and the decorated of their walls that has the guardian spirits carved.

The Angkor wat is the modern name of this temple which means city temple, and nowadays this temple has been restored by foreign companies who want to protect it, because the national government can’t pay for this work.
